District 50/51

District 50/51 Representative Meeting
March 1, 2010 6:30 PM

Kelly opened the meeting with the Serenity Prayer. Gordon read the 12 Traditions. Introductions were made.

Corrections:Michelle attended the district meeting to help with questions about bringing AA into the jail. She works at the Knox County Sherriff’s Department and is the new contact for AA’s coming into the jail. She will keep in touch with the volunteer coordinator. She said the jail can do volunteer orientations for AA volunteers and church volunteers at the same time. The background check on volunteer applications is out of her hands, and some applications take longer than others to get approved. She said there are currently openings for bringing AA meetings to both the men and women in the jail. There are openings for AA women’s meetings in the jail Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 5:00-6:00.

The Corrections committee meets the first Thursday of every month at 6:30 at the Flatiron, and they need volunteers -- see David H. for paperwork (740-6650).

District Financial Report: John W. gave the report. Since neither DCMs was able to attend the Memphis assembly, the $560 that was to cover the expense of sending them to the assembly was returned and deposited.

Intergroup Report: Mike gave the report. To volunteer for the hotline, call Mike (at intergroup) or Kathy (256-6127).

Assembly Info: 2nd Quarter Assembly in Chattanooga March 19-21, 2010 at the Chattanooga Choo Choo.

January 2011 Assembly in Knoxville: Assembly committee meets on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 6:30 pm at the Flatiron. Need volunteers to help form committees for registration, coffee, flyers, banner, hospitality, speaker, fundraisers, seed money from Area 64, Reports for Assembly and Convention committee and Area 64 business meeting, treasurer, theme, hotel liaison, disc jockey if there’s a dance, agenda, taper for business meetings, secretary, raffle baskets if we do a raffle, chairperson/liaison.

Everyone is encouraged to attend and help plan the assembly. Any AA member is eligible and encouraged to serve.

Highnooners group has volunteered to provide a meal at the assembly.

CPC/PI: Gordon gave the report. There will be a workshop Sat., March 27 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Cathedral, W. Cumberland and Walnut. Come find out how you can get involved with the CPC, PI, Treatment, Corrections, Grapevine, and Events Committees.

Archives: No report.

Grapevine/Events: Dennis gave the report. He’s planning a grapevine subscription drive. Dennis explained that the Grapevine is self-supporting, not supported by GSO. The Grapevine committee took old Grapevines to professional buildings to put in the waiting rooms and made contact with some people at St. Mary’s. To get involved with the Grapevine or Events committees, email Dennis.

Treatment: Come to the workshop March 27 at 11:00!

New Business: John W. made a motion to give $50 from district account to the 1st Quarter Assembly planning committee. A vote was taken, and the motion was approved.

Kelly resigned from her position as DCM for district 51. John B., the previous alternate DCM for district 51, was elected DCM. Ken was elected the new alternate DCM 51.

7th tradition was not passed.
The meeting closed with the Lord’s Prayer.
